Being a 2éme Cru Classé it is considered as being amongst the top of its class and has the reputation to be deeper and more structured than Pichon Lalande. 95 pts Jane Anson, Ībout the producer: Château Pichon Longueville BaronĬhâteau Pichon Baron, adjacent to that of Château Latour, was separated from Pichon-Lalande in 1850. This was the first year with Christian Seely as director, and the selection process for the first wine became more severe, with lower yields and a greater focus on fruit from the historic plot of vines directly opposite Château Latour. Powerful tannins that form walls around the fruit even at 20 years old, with nuanced black pepper spice, cocoa bean, woodsmoke, black cherry and blackberry fruit as it opens. NOTE: Some content is property of Decanter and Winedoctor and Vinous and and and and Sommelier Journal.Unusually this feels even more muscular than the 2000, with dark fruits, fresh acidities and a ton of appellation signature. Winery Spotlight: Château Pichon-Longueville Delicious, complete wine to enjoy now and for the next 15 years. Stylish, feminine, balanced, and elegant slightly warm on the long finish. Smooth palate, showing fresh acidity and gentle, evolving fruit. Evolving nose (though less evolved than the 2002) still fruity, with the lifted, appealing notes of Cabernet Franc in the foreground. (Château Pichon-Longueville Baron) 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc. July 2008, ( See more on Sommelier Journal.)
